What is injection molding?

Injection molding is a manufacturing process in which plastic pellets are melted in a heated barrel and injected into a mold under controlled pressure. Once the material has filled the cavity, the process transitions to holding pressure and cooling before the part is ejected.

This method is used to manufacture plastic parts with high repeatability and good dimensional accuracy. The same tool can produce large volumes with consistent quality, provided that the design and process are properly established from the outset.

This technology makes it possible to integrate features directly into the component, such as ribs, snap-fit fasteners, and reinforcements. This reduces the need for post-processing and simplifies further assembly.

How we approach injection molding

1. Technical Review and Design Analysis

We begin every project with a review of the design. Geometry, wall thickness, material selection, parting lines, and ejection are analyzed before tools are ordered or manufactured. Early adjustments can reduce tooling costs and improve the flow within the mold.

2. Tool manufacturing and adjustment

We have in-house expertise in tooling and wire EDM. This gives us control over critical dimensions and allows us to make adjustments without external lead times.

After tool development, we conduct test runs and verify dimensions and tolerances, surface finish, cycle time, and material behavior.

3. Mass production

Once the mold is approved, mass production begins. Temperature, injection pressure, holding pressure, and cooling time are optimized to achieve a consistent cycle time and uniform quality. Documented settings are used consistently to ensure that parts from different batches meet the same standard.

4. Quality Assurance

Inspection methods are tailored to the part’s function and industry requirements. We conduct ongoing measurements and follow established inspection plans. If necessary, documentation and traceability can be adapted to the customer’s specifications.
